Oscilloscopes are important pieces of test equipment that are used extensively in the Gardasoft development laboratory, with each engineer being provided with their own.

There are two ways to scope a lighting output depending on how accurate the result needs to be. Lighting pulses are generally viewed by probing the LED and checking for a negative-going pulse. It is important not to put the ground connection on the LED.
Application Note APP959 describes both the single ended measurement and differential measurement methods.
When viewing the pulse shape as a voltage, the pulse looks a strange shape, which is misleading as the actual current pulse and lighting output are much squarer than this.
